Igbo group condemns the bombing
Below is a Communique from Igboville Homecoming Retreat 2011 at Afikpo, Ebonyi State
Following the two days retreat of members of Igboville from Nigeria and the Diaspora, the following resolutions were adopted:
We condemn in totality the Christmas day bombings, as other such bombings, targeted at defenceless Nigerians in their churches, in their homes and their businesses by Islamic fundamentalists.
We also note that though a certain group called Boko Haram, based in Northern Nigeria, has claimed responsibility for the dastardly acts of bombing and wanton destruction of lives and property, there are strong  indications that this group continues to enjoy the protection and/or backing of political leaders of the region. The half-hearted condemnation of the group’s activities as well as refusal of the religious and political leaders to rein in these perpetrators are indicative of support and/or acquiescence.
We call on the President and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic to quickly and without regard to influences and positions, deploy the full weight of our law enforcement agencies to ensure that the activities of this group is brought to a swift end.
We demand that the president immediately convokes a National Conference of the federating units to review the structure of our federation and decide on the way forward.
We also call on the governors of the affected states to rise up and meet this challenge as the chief security officers of their states.
The Igboville Retreat hereby prays that the governments of South East States to take the leading positions in implementation of the United Nation’s mandatory 25 per cent of national budget in education and related developments.
Consequently, We, the Members of Igboville, hereby call upon all the governors of the south east to take immediate steps to ensure that no Igbo child is left behind or educationally disadvantaged.
We wish to call on all Igbo entrepreneurs to invest in the South east, in the areas of education and youth development; in industries and other enterprises to provide jobs for the teeming graduates of Igbo origin.
We, the Members of Igboville, believe that in investing in Igboland, Igbo entrepreneurs would remove Ndigbo from dangers of excessive involvement in the social lives of others, which in turn has bred envy and attacks; that way too, they would have protected their hard earned resources.
We call on Igbo Youths to continue to be calm and law abiding and allow the law enforcement agencies to tackle the current national security challenge.
Every Igbo man living and working in Northern Nigeria is advised to take necessary steps to protect his or her life and property.
The governors of the South east are called upon to liaise with their counterparts from the flash points to ensure the safety of lives and property of Ndigbo.
We wish to state that while we continue to believe in the possibilities of one Nigeria, its sustenance cannot continue to be at this kind of colossal cost to Ndigbo.
We hereby affirm that we must, at the moment, be an end to the so called sacrifice, in blood and loss of property.
NOBODY SHOULD HAVE DOUBTS ON THE CAPACITY OF NDIGBO TO DEFEND THEMSELVES. OUR COMMITMENT TO PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED AS COWARDICE. PERPETRATORS, FUNDAMENTALISTS, MISCREANTS OR WHATEVER THEY CALL THEMSELVES, SHOULD BE WARNED.

[elombah.com] An Igbo group, Igboville has decried the killing of another Igbo youth corper in Northern Nigeria, barely six months after the killing of Ikechukwu Ukeoma and his colleagues in the post-election violence that ravaged some states in Northern Nigeria. Eucharia Remmy graduated from the University of Nigeria in 2010, and was doing her youth service in Damaturu, Yobe State when she was attacked and murdered by terror group,
Boko Haram during the gun and bomb attacks that occured in the state over the weekend.
Pix: Enugu state damsel, Remmy Eucharia, 2010 graduate of psychology, UNN .
The Enugu-State born young lady was a member of Christ Embassy in Damaturu, and was sharing Rapsodies of Reality along New Jerusalem Road when she was hit and killed.

In a statement, made available to elombah.com, Igboville called on the NYSC to immediately cancel the posting of any Igbo person to the volatile areas of the North, observing that Obviously, neither the NYSC nor the state governments can guarantee their safety. The group also demanded that all Igbos currently serving in the volatile areas of the north should be re deployed to the South East, South West or South South, till security conditions improve.
Meanwhile the orientation course for Batch ‘C’ of the National Youth Service Corps in Borno and Yobe states has been put off indefinitely in order to protect corps members from Boko Haram attacks.

The NYSC  in a statement on Wednesday announced the indefinite suspension and asked corps members already posted to the two states harried by members of the violent Islamic sect last Friday to remain in their homes to await further directive.

The statement, a copy of which was made available to elombah.com said: "Owing to security reasons, (the) orientation course WILL NOT hold in Borno and Yobe states until further notice.

“Prospective corps members posted there should await further directives.

“All serving and new corps members are STRONGLY advised to strictly adhere to the contents of the security tips distributed to them.”

According to the statement, registration for new corps members begins on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, the cut -off date for Registration is 12 midnight Wednesday November 16, 2011 while the official closing ceremony is Tuesday December 6, 2011.
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM MEMBERS OF IGBOVILLE ON 10TH NOVEMBER 2011

"We the members of Igboville wish to condemn in the strongest term possible the continuing targeting and killing of Igbo men, women and children living or working in parts of the North.
...
Most worrisome is the targeting and killing of Igbo youth corpers who were posted to the North to serve their fatherland. While we are yet to come to terms with the gruesome and heartless murder of Ikechukwu Ukeoma and his colleagues last April, our attention has been drawn to the merciless killing of Eucharia Remmy and others in Damaturu, Yobe State. It is totally unacceptable and MUST stop forthwith.

On behalf of Igbo professionals in Nigeria and the Diaspora, we hereby demand the following:
1. NYSC should immediately cancel the posting of any Igbo person to the volatile areas of the North. Obviously, neither the NYSC nor the state governments can guarantee their safety.
2. All Igbos currently serving in the volatile areas of the north should be re deployed to the South East, South West or South South, till security conditions improve.
3. Employers and NYSC should not sanction Igbo Corpers that abandoned their primary assignments because of security concerns. Life first.
4. The governors of the south east states should immediately meet with their northern counterparts to map out strategies to ensure the security of life and properties of Igbo living in the North. Immediate evacuation of those in harms way should be carried out without further delay.
5. The federal and relevant state governments should ensure adequate compensation for our people who lost their lives and properties in recurring violence across the North.

While we continue to believe and have hope in one Nigeria, that is the greatest country in the world, we will not support the blood of Ndigbo being used to water the tree of Nigeria unity. We have shown sufficient faith in the Nigerian project and that explains why our people are in all nooks and crannies of Nigeria spreading development, peace and love. Those targeting Ndigbo are basically targeting ONE Nigeria. We should not allow them to win.

Igboville is therefore calling on all Igbo youths and groups to please avoid acts of retaliation in any form. We are christians and our traditions strongly forbid blood shed.

We are also calling on the federal government of Nigeria led by Dr Goodluck Jonathan to rise to it's responsibility of protection of lives and properties of Ndigbo and Nigerians. Every necessary measure must be taken to preserve life and defeat the insurgents, who represent nothing but darkness.

The federal government should also as a matter of urgency convene a National Conference involving all nationalities that make up Nigeria. This will enable all aggrieved groups and interests table their issues for discussion and remedy. We cannot continue to pretend that all is well with our unity. Not when active war is being levied on the Federal Republic by a group whose best stated objective is to carve out an Islamic Republic from our current structure. We believe that it is the duty of the federal government to create an avenue for demands such as that to be peacefully tabled and discussed in the spirit of oneness and brotherly love."
